DEMING — Newly-elected state lawmaker Candie Sweetser is slated to participate in a Job Creation Listening Tour on Friday, Dec. 16, focused on creating jobs and growing the economy.
New Mexico representative-elect Sweetser (D-District 32) will join lawmakers from across the state at Friday’s event in Las Cruces. The tour is designed to engage business owners, industry, employers and other New Mexicans in conversations with members of the New Mexico House of Representatives to discuss solutions for New Mexico’s economy.
Several Luna County business owners have been invited to attend as well.
Sweetser, a small-business owner/operator herself, agreed that creating jobs and expanding the area’s economy are the most pressing needs facing the state.
“ As I campaigned this year, the one consistent plea I heard was to work on getting good-paying jobs in Luna and Hidalgo counties so people can afford to stay here and raise their families,” Sweetser said.
House Speaker-designate Brian Egolf said they have prioritized growing the economy as the number one focus.
Egolf, Sweetser and other state representatives will host the first listening session on Friday on the campus of New Mexico State University.
Additional listening sessions will be held in Roswell and Carlsbad on January 5, Hobbs and Clovis on Jan. 6, and Albuquerque on Jan. 13, 2017.
