As your District 32 State Representative, I am committed to improving our communities, strengthening our schools, promoting public safety, and enhancing the economic future of our region.
I want to help bring good-paying jobs to rural communities and find bipartisan solutions to New Mexico's most pressing issues. I will never let politics keep me from making the best decisions for southwest New Mexico.
I serve on the House Appropriations and the House Agriculture and Water Resources committees, and have served during the interim on the Economic and Rural Development, the Science, Technology and Telecommunications, and the Legislative Ethics committees.
Please know that I am representing the people of Luna, Hidalgo and Grant counties on these committees – and in the NM legislature – to the best of my ability, embracing the distinctiveness and remarkable character of our area.
That’s because as a native New Mexican, I understand that the needs of District 32 transcend lines – political party lines, socioeconomic lines, ethnicity lines, industry lines, age and gender lines, religious lines, and ability lines.
Southwestern New Mexico is an area rich with culture, heritage and history. I appreciate the uniqueness of the region’s agricultural and mining roots, relationship with neighboring Mexico, military history, and desert beauty.
And know that I have never lost sight of what an honor and privilege it is to serve as your State Representative. The good, hard-working, kind, and resilient people of this region are my daily motivation to do my best.
I’m constantly reminded that our many diversities only serve to make us stronger.
I appreciate the confidence you’ve placed in me and will continue to do my best for you!
My Pledge to Voters of District 32:
No Negative Campaigning
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I’m Candie Sweetser, state representative for District 32 in Luna, Hidalgo, and Grant counties. Today, I’m pledging to the voters of our district, and to my opponent, that I will never go negative in my campaign for re-election. I invite my opponent to join me in taking this pledge.
We are facing enormous challenges in a country that is painfully divided. We’ve never needed a return to civility, respect, and unity more than we do now. Political consultants may say divisive rhetoric and political attacks win races, but I don’t hire consultants, so I wouldn’t know. What I do know is this kind of politics is damaging to our culture and our ability to come together for the common good. We need to work together to overcome the obstacles we face right now, and we’ll never get there by tearing people down or trying to mislead our neighbors. Let’s stay focused on solutions.
I’m going to run my race like I always do. By listening to my neighbors across the district and talking to voters about my ideas, my record, and my values. I know our community deserves a conversation that is focused on solutions, not politics.
Here’s my pledge to you:
I will run a positive campaign on the issues, our values, and my record. I will never run attack ads, send negative mail, mischaracterize, or speak ill of my opponent. I will never go negative in this campaign.
I will hold everyone working with my campaign to the same standard and I humbly ask that my supporters join me in staying positive and focused on the issues that matter.
If organizations pick sides in this race, I insist that they respect our voters and not attack my opponent.
Even in difficult times, I’ve had hope and confidence in the future of our state because I know how strong we are when we are united. We have to stay true to ourselves and the values that make us one people. I believe that striving for unity instead of division isn’t just a choice in attitude, it’s a responsibility.
Representing our community has been the honor of my life. I look forward to a clean campaign and to talking more with all of you about building a stronger New Mexico.
