Hello, I’m Candie Sweetser, your State Representative for NM House District 32.
I am honored to have been appointed to four interim legislative committees as I continue to work for you. I have been selected as chair of the Science, Technology and Telecommunications Committee, as well as a voting member of the Economic and Rural Development Committee and the Legislative Ethics Committee. I'm also an advisory member of the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee. My work on these interim committees is in addition to my serving as vice-chair of the House Agriculture and Water Resources Committee, and as a member of the House Appropriations Committee. I am representing the people of Luna, Hidalgo and Grant counties on these committees – and in the NM legislature – to the best of my ability, embracing the distinctiveness and remarkable character of the area. That’s because as a native New Mexican, I understand that the needs of District 32 transcend lines – political party lines, socioeconomic lines, ethnicity lines, industry lines, age and gender lines, religious lines and ability lines. Southwestern New Mexico is an area rich with culture, heritage and history. I appreciate the uniqueness of the region’s agricultural and mining roots, relationship with neighboring Mexico, military history and desert beauty. Our unique position was reinforced recently when I attended the Border Legislative Academy, where a small group of elected officials from the border region representing four U.S. states and six Mexico states were invited to work on solving border issues together.
